eSense app changelog: all versions at a glance

This page lists the changes to the eSense app version by version, newest first. The texts in Google Play and the App Store are considerably shorter, because only a few hundred characters are available there. This is the full version.

One section deserves particular attention in every version: Affects measured values. It lists changes that alter displayed or stored values. If you compare recordings across a longer period, it is worth a look.

8.2.0 (submitted for review on 21 October 2026)

Chart scaling in fullscreen mode has been corrected. System bars no longer overlap the chart. These fixes apply to iOS and Android.

On Android, access to custom files has also been revised. The previous 8.1.9 submission was rejected over photo/video permissions. The developer tested custom files on Android 12 and Android 16; this does not yet confirm acceptance by Google.

The starting version differs by platform: iOS 8.1.9 has been available since 20 October, while Google Play still shows 8.1.7 in the check on 21 October. Android 8.2.0 is therefore also intended to include the changes described below for 8.1.9, including the new first CSV line and skipping damaged archive fields. Existing analysis scripts must handle the different CSV version labels. Missing data is not reconstructed. Availability of 8.2.0 is not yet confirmed.

Screen sharing for support

The app screen can be shared for support from Help, below the feedback form. Support staff can view the stream through esense.live, live or with rewind. The viewer is intended for super users; this feature does not provide remote control.

Some modal windows and popups are not shown. Some page changes appear only after another tap. Longer streams may affect device performance.

Recording version, CSV and damaged archive data

New recordings for all sensors store the app version used at recording time. The first CSV line now uses record app version. For older recordings without this metadata it uses current app version: the app version used for export, not a reconstructed recording version. Analysis scripts that expect a fixed label for this header must be updated.

The archive skips and logs damaged saved fields instead of blocking the whole recording. Intact parts may become accessible, but this does not make the recording complete. Missing values are not reconstructed. Background database repair is not included in this build.

Saving, surveys and exports

In Open training, the recording is now saved even if the post-training survey fails; it is then saved without the survey. If saving itself fails, the app displays the error and writes it to the error log.

Errors opening the survey after stopping training and in Combined Feedback were corrected. PDF and CSV export icons in archive details are visible again.

Photos and platform integrations

Muscle photos taken after training are saved again. New photos are stored in their own muscle_photo folder and no longer appear in image pickers for custom backgrounds. Older photos stay in their existing location and remain visible in the archive.

Profile photos can be changed again and are selected using the system photo picker.

More platform integrations were migrated from Cordova to Capacitor: app version, camera, clipboard, profile-photo selection, in-app browser and file system access. Unused Cordova plugins were removed.

Platform-specific fixes

Android: showing the keyboard no longer shrinks the visible area by twice the keyboard height. The music list no longer stays in its loading state when access to music files is denied.

iOS: a possible camera-opening crash caused by missing permission text was fixed. Layout around the notch and Dynamic Island was adjusted; a black gap may remain in some orientations.

8.1.7 (September 2026)

Modules with formatted text are fully visible again in the Procedure editor instead of appearing as white tiles.

Connection and reconnection to Philips Hue lamps in procedures were reworked. Shared procedures with Hue lamps also work for the recipient.

Export database works again. Local database export is available to all users; cloud backup remains an in-app purchase.

8.1.6 (August 2026)

New

• Automatic restart of a measurement. In the sensor settings, right below Session length, you can switch on an automatic restart. When the timer stops the measurement, it starts again on its own, up to five times in a row. Every run is stored as its own recording, and the app shows you in advance how long the whole training will take with the length and the number of parts you selected.
• What is new, directly in the app. After an update the app shows you what has been added and what has been fixed. The notice can be switched off.
• Notice about newer versions. The app lets you know when a newer version is available in the store.

Affects measured values

• Revised counting of spontaneous fluctuations for the eSense Skin Response. A rise from a local minimum to the following maximum now counts as an SCR when it reaches at least 0.02 µS within 1 to 20 seconds. SCR values from recordings made before this update cannot be compared one to one with newer ones. The bands of 0 to 5, 6 to 9, 10 to 15 and from 16 SCR per minute remain unchanged for now. • Correction in the signal smoothing. The calculation of the rate of change in the One Euro filter was faulty and has been fixed. The effect on the smoothed curve is small. Background in Why does my curve look smoother than before?

Fixed

• Procedures with your own images, videos or audio files work reliably again. The same applies to procedures built from many modules.

Technical

• Updated platform components for current operating system versions.

Versions 8.1.4 and 8.1.5 were test builds only and never appeared in the stores. Their changes are included in 8.1.6.

8.1.3 (1 July 2026)

Improved

• USB audio adapters on iOS and iPadOS. Whether an original Apple adapter or a third-party one, USB-C or Lightning: your eSense is detected correctly regardless of which option you choose in the audio dialogue. For the best signal quality we still recommend original Apple adapters. (iOS and iPadOS only)
• Settings are remembered. Breath pacer, video, music and other options are kept per sensor, even after closing the app. Your eSense Pulse connection is stored in Open Training and in procedures. The settings apply per account and equally without an account.
• Lower system load and more stability in the background.

Affects measured values (added retrospectively)

• The adaptive signal smoothing was already included in this version. We did not mention it in the release notes at the time. We are adding it here because it influences the number of counted spontaneous fluctuations. See Why does my curve look smoother than before?

8.1.0 (26 June 2026)

New and improved

• Automatic detection of the required audio input in Open Training. (iOS and iPadOS only)
• Synchronised sessions appear in the archive again. A notice explains that you may need to restart the app or reopen the sensor for the sessions to become visible.
• Correct date display in the recording list.
• Corrections to the CSV export with combined feedback and to the layout of the PDF report.

Affects measured values (added retrospectively)

• To the best of our knowledge, the adaptive signal smoothing (One Euro filter) reached production with this version. It was missing from the release notes at the time. Since then curves look calmer, and the number of counted spontaneous fluctuations can come out lower than before, particularly with low readings. 8.0.9 (June 2026)

Fixed

• Longer eSense Pulse sessions are stored correctly.
• The Philips Hue bridge is detected reliably again.
• Improved signal display for all eSense sensors.

On Android the “What’s new” text was not updated for this version. Those points only appeared there together with 8.1.0.

8.0.6 and 8.0.7 (May and June 2026)

With 8.0.6 the app jumped from 7.3.8 to the 8 series. Versions 8.0.0 to 8.0.5 were internal test builds and never appeared in the stores. All the points below are therefore new compared with 7.3.8.

New

• New technical foundation (Capacitor 7). Considerably more stability, a cleaned-up interface and the basis for faster future updates.
• Lab Streaming Layer (LSL) as part of the OSC extension. Stream your eSense data in real time to LabRecorder, OpenViBE, MATLAB, BCI2000, pylsl and other LSL-compatible tools. See Streaming eSense data.
• Deleting data in the archive. Supervisors can reset the data of a supervised client from the profile page. In addition, every user can delete their own data per sensor via the three-dot menu in the archive. See Supervisor guide.
• Data export to Apple Health and Health Connect. On Android from 8.0.6, on iOS from 8.0.7. Which sensors are supported on which platform is listed in Apple Health and Health Connect.
• Promo code. A promo code unlocks all in-app purchases. See Redeeming a promo code.

Improved

• Philips Hue pairing without the ten-second button press.
• Connection check when starting a training without a connected sensor, with a pointer to the demo mode.
• Revised procedures system, including sharing between platforms.
• Improved breath pacer and oscilloscope with scale locking.
• Reliable ZIP export in the archive and more control over cloud synchronisation.

Older versions

We do not list entries for versions before 8.0.6. The store texts of the 7 series are no longer retrievable in Google Play or the App Store. If you need information about an older version, please contact our support team.
