eSense SDK – eSense sensors in your own apps (Android, iOS/macOS, Windows)
The eSense SDK is aimed at developers who want to integrate eSense sensors into their own apps. For normal use of the sensors you don’t need an SDK – that’s what the eSense App is for. This article answers the common question of which platforms the SDK supports for the eSense sensors.
All six eSense sensors now native on every platform
With Suite v5.0, the three Bluetooth sensors eSense Pulse, eSense Muscle and eSense EEGenius now also run natively in the Android and iOS/macOS SDK – in addition to the already native Windows SDK. This means all six eSense sensors are available on every native platform (Android, iOS/macOS and Windows) for your own app development. Tested on real hardware.
The Bluetooth sensors are accessed through a unified interface (ESenseBleManager) – complementing the existing interface for the audio-based sensors. eSense Pulse uses the standardised Bluetooth Heart Rate Profile (HRP); eSense Muscle and eSense EEGenius use a proprietary GATT protocol.
Platform overview
| Sensor | Transport | Android | iOS / macOS | Windows |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| eSense Skin Response (EDA) | Audio | yes | yes | yes |
| eSense Temperature | Audio | yes | yes | yes |
| eSense Respiration | Audio | yes | yes | yes |
| eSense Pulse | Bluetooth (BLE) | yes (new) | yes (new) | yes |
| eSense Muscle (EMG) | Bluetooth (BLE) | yes (new) | yes (new) | yes |
| eSense EEGenius (EEG) | Bluetooth (BLE) | yes (new) | yes (new) | yes |
Note on app frameworks: The Bluetooth sensors (eSense Pulse, Muscle, EEGenius) are currently available in the native SDKs (Android, iOS/macOS, Windows). For cross-platform frameworks such as Flutter, Capacitor, Unreal or Unity, the Bluetooth sensors are not yet released – this is planned for a future update. The audio-based sensors (Skin Response, Temperature, Respiration) are already available in these frameworks.
