What’s new in the eSense App 8.x

With version 8, the eSense App has received a completely new technical foundation (migration to Capacitor 7). This brings significantly more stability, a streamlined user interface and the basis for faster future updates. In addition, several new features have been added.

Latest updates (version 8.1)

  • Settings are remembered (8.1.3): Breathing trainer, video, music and other options are now retained per sensor – even after closing the app. Your eSense Pulse connection is saved in Open Training and in procedures. Settings apply per account as well as without an account.
  • Reliable USB audio adapters on iOS (8.1.3): Whether original Apple or third-party adapter, USB-C or Lightning – your eSense is correctly recognised regardless of which option you choose in the audio pop-up. For the best signal quality, we still recommend original Apple adapters.
  • Reliable cloud synchronisation (8.1.0): Synchronised sessions appear in the archive again. A notice pop-up explains that you may need to restart the app or reopen the sensor for the sessions to become visible. In addition: correct date display in the recording list, as well as fixes to the CSV export with combined feedback and to the PDF report layout.
  • More stability and clearer signals (8.0.9): Longer eSense Pulse sessions are saved correctly, the Philips Hue Bridge is reliably recognised again, and the signal display of all eSense sensors is clearer and more consistent.
  • Background performance: Improved performance and stability (8.1.3).

New features

  • Data export to Apple Health and Health Connect: Selected eSense readings can be transferred to the health ecosystems. You can find out which sensors are supported on which platform under Apple Health and Health Connect.
  • Promo Code: A Promo Code lets you unlock all in-app purchases of the app. More on this under Redeeming a Promo Code.
  • Lab Streaming Layer (LSL) is now part of the OSC extension: stream your eSense data in real time to LabRecorder, OpenViBE, MATLAB, BCI2000, pylsl and other LSL-compatible research tools. Details under Streaming eSense data (eSense Web App, OSC, LSL).
  • Deleting data in the archive (Archive Wipe): Supervisors can reset the data of a supervised client from the Profile page; in addition, every user can delete their own data per sensor via the three-dot menu in the archive. Ideal for shared devices. See Supervisor guide.
  • Sensor connection check: When starting a training without a connected sensor, the app now shows a clear message and points to the Demo Mode.

Improvements

  • Reworked procedures system: Downloading, uploading and sharing procedures across platforms, as well as the local procedures list, now work reliably.
  • Philips Hue: Pairing without the 10-second button press. eSense Pulse, breathing trainer and Hue light share a unified colour and brightness logic. Improved temperature slider (20–40 °C in 0.1° steps) in Open Training and procedures.
  • Breathing trainer: Hold times are applied correctly, the breaths per minute are clearly highlighted.
  • Oscilloscope: The scale lock now also works in full screen and in procedures. With video feedback, real-time thresholds for sharpness, brightness and colour are available.
  • Archive: Reliable ZIP export, clearer sort toggle and more control over cloud synchronisation (no forced sync after login).
  • More stable Bluetooth connection with eSense Pulse and eSense Muscle.
  • Many further refinements: tactile feedback, YouTube thumbnails visible again, improved help links, refreshed “Shop & Plans” area, language selection on the login page and numerous improvements to the user interface.
